This is Sarah Gecan. She works in music promotion and is very good at what she does. She doesn’t turn down an opportunity to try something new, she’s passionate about her friends and family, and is more positive than it seems possible for any person to be. Here are her words. I hope you enjoy them.

Tell me about your relationship with music.

Music is my greatest love affair.

Can you describe a day that you would consider your ‘best work day’?

The Lupe Fiasco/Motion City Soundtrack concert my team and I put on at UCF in 2008. My dream came true that day. I put on an incredible concert, with an amazing team of people, and every one had fun. It felt unreal.

(“Myself, Lupe Fiasco, and members of my UCF team.”)

How about ‘worst’?

This is corny, but I’ve never had a “worst.” Yes, there are times when Murphy’s Law reigns supreme and I get super frustrated, but I work with music for a living. Every day I get to do what I love is a blessing. The “worst” days are just experiences to learn from and knowledge I am able to utilize in the future.

What’s a professional goal you’ve set aside for yourself to accomplish this year?

Get hired by a national festival marketing/production firm.

post four year strong in store
(Post-Four Year Strong in-store)

How about a personal one?

Begin the next adventure of my life by living somewhere outside of Florida.

What do you see yourself doing in 5 years? Is it still working within the music industry?

Yes. In 5 years I’d love to be working for a firm like C3 Presents or 4Fini playing a major role in their events.

(“During The Fest last year Smoke or Fire ended up being my roommates. Coincidentally, they were also my stage’s headliner on the last day. I wrote them a note in the room their gear was saying “Sarah Loves Smoke Or Fire.” Later in the day I walked back to room and they switched it on me. It was the perfect end to a rather perfect weekend.”)

What do you tell yourself when things get difficult?

You’ve been fighting for this dream since you were 18, don’t give up now.

What’s your proudest accomplishment?

Becoming the person I am today who believes that a positive attitude and hard work can accomplish a lot.

What’s something you’d like to learn how to do but haven’t yet?

Paddle board.

A place you’d like to visit?

Paris.

What’s your favorite thing about St. Pete?

I can ride my bike everywhere.

Finish these sentences:

I love…adventures.
I’m not a fan of…negative attitudes.
I’ll never…be anything but myself.
I’m always hoping to…grow, learn, and explore more.
